SUU’s library book sale is happening now

Calling all bookworms! The Gerald R. Sherratt Library is having a book sale now through Dec. 11.

From DVDs, magazines, encyclopedias, textbooks and fictional works, SUU’s library has it all on sale. Prices range from $5 to $225, with the highest priced item being the volumes of Britannica’s Great Books ( missing v. 31).

Book sales at the university library are called for a number of reasons; If the library receives donations that don’t fit their collection, or if material becomes outdated and newer versions are available, it’s in their best interest to give them a new home.

This time around, the library has found materials that have been withdrawn from the collection due to the presence of duplicates or material that is no longer relevant, that have been replaced with updated texts.

Library faculty member, Dr. Richard Saunders, explained that a library’s collection is organic and that it ebbs and flows with time. Additionally, he touched on why reading is important and still relevant today.

“Reading is virtually the basis of everything we do in a literate society. If one wants to run computers, one has to be literate. If one wants to deal with business, one has to be literate. If one wants to engage in virtually anything other than theft, one has to be literate,” said Saunders.

Stop by the library to check out the media and take home your new favorite read.
