Meet the artist: JUG

Archie Anderson, also known as JUG, is a 23-year-old experimental hip hop and neo soul artist from St. George, Utah. Anderson has performed at venues across southern Utah such as Sok Hop, Amusement Co., Cafe Elevato and, most recently, Flower Fest in March of 2026.

His interest in music began when his mom, an avid pianist for her church, encouraged him to play instruments. He grew up playing the piano, the saxophone and the bass in an orchestra. Witnessing passionate musicians around him early on opened his eyes to a new perspective on the art.

He began making music with a group called Dlux in 2019 during his junior year of high school. His former creative projects were recorded and released on Soundcloud under the alias Archie.

During his formative years, he reached out to Austin Rogers and Jayson Haslam Brock, the previous and current owners of Plaid Skeleton, to record his music.

After some time in the studio, he reached out to Rodgers and Brock for an internship opportunity to watch sessions and gain experience with production equipment.

“Jayson and Austin both saw how determined I was in wanting to create something bigger than myself,” said Anderson. “They helped me learn and develop those skills. They wanted me to succeed and opened a lot of doors for me. Love those guys.”

This decision led him to pursue his craft professionally and gave rise to his solo project, JUG.

Although he always had a knack for music, he shared that his experience in addiction recovery gave him the motivation to create his new identity.

“You can always create a new version of yourself and you never have to be stuck in your character,” said Anderson. “I took inspiration from MF DOOM with the mask. Jughead, from Archie Comics, stood out to me as a perfect character or a perfect mask. It’s limitless. I can separate my past self from my name, and it has allowed me to create so many new things.”

Since 2022, he has released several albums with varying genres and samples that define his sound. Anderson has collaborated with fellow artists Vinny, Lizzy Walter and Taymansour. He plans to continue working with them on future releases.

“Being a solo artist allows me to be specific about what I want to create and convey without the influence of other people, but I think collaboration is important,” he said. “You can only get so far by yourself. You need like-minded, creative people around you.”

Anderson has taken inspiration from artists such as Michael Jackson, J Dilla, MIKE and George Clanton for producing, songwriting, beatmaking and style.

He aims to stand out through a strategic approach to making music and promoting his career.

“Sometimes you have to be bored,” said Anderson. “My best work comes from listening to my beats without distractions. I’ve learned that you have to work like it is your job. You have to take initiative and do stuff that nobody likes to do. Make content. Be unique. People will notice.”

He released three singles, “MOTION,” “WHOLE8TH” and “PUFFDALA” in early 2026 and revealed having multiple upcoming singles in the works.

“For some reason this year, I feel a lot more confident in creating what I want to create and sharing it,” he said. “I have so many beats. I’m excited to continue stretching the boundaries of my sound.”
