Cedar City, Utah received unexpected snowfall early this morning, Dec. 3. While the amount was not significant, students are advised to remain cautious for the time being.
There is a 5% chance of more snowfall throughout the remainder of the day. Most main roads have been plowed, but driving can still be dangerous at this time. Because the high temperature for today is only 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the roads are likely to be frozen over or icy in some areas.
According to experts, accidents are common in this kind of weather due to unpredictable road surfaces and low visibility, even when it is not currently snowing.
“You must rely on your windshield wipers, defrosters and low-beam headlights to keep sight lines clear,” said injury lawyer Ken Christensen. “Patience, caution and frequent checks of your surroundings make a difference.”
It is also recommended that drivers go slowly, leave extra space in between each vehicle and use their brakes properly.
“Stomping the brake pedal can lock your wheels and send you into a skid. Instead, apply steady, gentle pressure, especially if you have anti-lock brakes,” Christensen added.
Temperatures are expected to increase throughout the remainder of the week, but Cedar City is likely to receive more snowfall by late December.
