Library hosts Drawing I student exhibition

Now through Dec. 9, Professor Dorothy Portin’s Drawing I class work is being displayed on the third floor of the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.

The library hosts several exhibitions throughout the year, and the latest is the work of Portin’s class. These works are hung along the walls of the third floor for students to browse while taking a study break.

Exhibits like this are an opportunity for SUU students, who may have never had their work presented to an audience before, to showcase their talents.

“This display presented students in an introductory level class with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in showcasing their work and installing artwork in a public setting,” said Portin. “Not only does it allow them to be proud of their accomplishments and skills development, but I always like to encourage my students to realize the opportunities around them.”

The library staff is thrilled to support student work.

“It’s stunning. In fact, the perspective drawings of library spaces are so impressive that I’d like to see about acquiring them from the artists so that I can place them on permanent display in the Sherratt Library,” said Library Director Phil Roché “I always prefer to showcase our terrific student work on our walls…student work is always that much more impressive and meaningful.”

Students in the class began at varying skill levels and worked diligently throughout the semester to prepare for the exhibit. Portin added that students have developed confidence and self-direction through a combination of in-class and at-home assignments.

Students can view the artwork until Dec. 9. For more information on the exhibit, visit the event page here.
