2026 Kolob Canyon Review submissions closing soon

The Kolob Canyon Review, Southern Utah University’s literature journal, is now taking submissions from all students, staff and alumni. They publish creative work in art and writing, as well as slam poetry, short film, music and more. Submissions close Oct. 10, so get your pieces in before then.

KCR will accept short fiction, creative nonfiction writing pieces, poems and visual artwork. They also have a multimodal category for pieces such as combined artwork and writing, zines, short film, slam poetry and anything you can come up with.

“(Kolob Canyon Review) allows all sorts of creative people to come together and create something amazing,” said Editor In Chief Rayne Kenworthy. “It’s so cool to see all of those things come together to create a new journal with a unique theme every year.”

Every spring, KCR publishes work in a physical book given to contributors at a release party. Attendees can also buy copies of the book and merch at the event.

The event allows contributors to read or present their pieces to the audience. Last year, alumni contributor and Editor’s Choice Winner Jamison Conforto presented his piece “Elephant’s Garden”, a multimodal film piece, on a projected screen.

English Department Faculty Advisor for KCR Nathaniel Taggart explained what the journal does for students at SUU.

“KCR gives students real-world experience in literary publishing. Students lead the project at every level, and over the course of two semesters, learn how to translate publishing into meaningful outcomes for both their own resumes and SUU’s art and humanities community at large.”

To submit to KCR, visit the submissions page and read the guidelines. To learn more about KCR and its past editions, check out their website and follow them on Instagram. If you’re interested in joining KCR as an editor, talk to your advisor about joining the class in the spring.
