The secret sauce of the Pizza Cart

Jason and Cindy Murray made a commitment — to bring homemade, wood-fired pizza to their customers. From a small cart in an Ace Hardware parking lot to a family-owned store, here’s how a beloved food changed their lives.

The Pizza Cart, a family-owned restaurant in Cedar City, Utah, is known for its handcrafted pizzas and inviting atmosphere. The idea originated from the Murrays’ original 2009 wood-fired clay oven, which was built in their garden. Jason and his brother then created ovens to participate in a renaissance fair. The idea was a smashing success and the pair participated in the fair for a few years.

“I think my favorite part is helping the employees change,” shared Jason. “I love seeing improvements — them changing as an individual. By the time they are done, they are a totally different person — all grown up.”

Since the restaurant’s creation, their mission has remained the same — to serve food the way it is meant to be served, from scratch. The service is based on three principles: Love, quality and friendliness. The team members strive to provide quality service to all who stop by.

“We have created a lot of relationships through the years,” shared Cindy.

After 15 years of homemade pizza, the Murrays know that it’s about more than the pizza — it’s about the people they serve.

“I have found that if people know the story, they feel ownership in it — as if they are a part of the Pizza Cart family,” shared acting manager, Regan Murray.

The Pizza Cart serves wood-fired pizza and in-house gelato to the Cedar City community. Open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the team encourages residents to stop by and become a part of the family.

As their motto states, “It’s about the people, not the pizza.”
