Thunderbirds host Mavericks in home series finale

As the 2025 regular season draws toward an end, the Southern Utah University women’s softball team hosts the University of Texas at Arlington for a three-game series, starting on Saturday, April 26. Game one will start at 1 p.m., followed by game two beginning at 3:30 p.m. The series finale will take place on Sunday, April 27, at noon.

All three games can be watched live at Kathryn Berg Field or streamed live on ESPN+.

Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds are coming off back-to-back series wins over Utah Tech University and Seattle University. SUU currently sits in seventh place in the Western Athletic Conference, with a 13-24 overall record and an 8-10 record in conference play.

SUU’s pitching staff is coming off one of their best season series, allowing only 11 runs over 21 innings. Sophomore pitcher Emily Delgado has been Southern Utah’s best arm, leading the team with a 3.99 earned run average.

After some slow starts to the season, the Thunderbird lineup is finding its stride, especially at home. SUU averages 7.2 runs per game at home, compared to just 2.3 runs away from Kathryn Berg Field.

Freshman leadoff hitter Michella Salvatierra has continued to hit well at the top of the lineup. Salvatierra leads SUU with a .352 batting average and is first on the team with 43 hits and 22 runs.

UT Arlington
The Mavericks are entering this week on a bit of a slide. Despite being 22-20 on the year and 8-10 in WAC play, UT Arlington is on a six-game losing streak and is 3-10 in their last 13 games.

One significant reason for the late-season struggles has been the offensive production. Although the Mavericks are No. 4 in the conference with 33 home runs, UT Arlington ranks second-to-last with a team batting average of .255 and is No. 8 in the conference in hits per game, averaging 6.55 per contest.

Though the offense has struggled, the pitching keeps UT Arlington in games. Senior pitcher Jessica Adams leads the team with a 2.85 ERA and 61.1 innings pitched.
