Southern Utah University to Celebrate 40th Annual Utah Summer Games

For the 40th year in a row, Southern Utah University will celebrate the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games on Friday, June 5. The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with a community block party on the SUU football practice fields, followed by the opening ceremony at 8:30 p.m. in Eccles Coliseum.

Presented by KSL 5 TV, the block party will feature local vendors, appearances from Utah Summer Games partners such as the Las Vegas Raiders and live media coverage from KSL TV and KONY Country.

Doors will open at 8 p.m. for the highly anticipated opening ceremony. The celebration will showcase Southern Utah’s largest fireworks show, live music, the traditional Parade of Athletes and appearances by prominent political and sports dignitaries.

“We are eager to welcome a new generation of athletes and families to campus to write their own chapters in this beautiful story,” said Jon Oglesby, executive director of the Utah Summer Games

Since 1986, the Utah Summer Games has strived to connect athletes of all abilities and ages from across the nation through Olympic-style competition in the heart of Southern Utah.

“The relationship between the Games, Cedar City and SUU has always been a love story,” said Oglesby. “It’s a story of individuals pushing themselves to the highest possible heights and, in the process, lifting an entire community.”

SUU students in Cedar City for the summer are encouraged to participate in the games, whether by attending as spectators or signing up for a sport. No professional status is required, and events range from fencing and mountain biking to bowling and more.

Tickets are available through TBirdTickets.com. For more information visit the Utah Summer Games’ website.
