SUUDO holds dance salon

The Southern Utah University Dance Organization held a salon on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds went toward supporting SUUDO, a student-run organization on campus that provides dance opportunities to the T-Bird community at large.

SUUDO salons are a compilation of student movement compositions, allowing any students to bring stuff they are working on. They also allow people to bring improv or completed work.

“It’s a window to all of our students’ little dancer hearts,” said SUU marketing director Gracie Urban-Breed.

SUUDO salons are a relaxed way for students to showcase their choreography and see other students’ work.

“It’s cool because there’s no limits,” said Urban-Breed. “We don’t have any limitation on what you could show, so it could be any style of dance, any music, whatever you want.”

This semester’s salon featured fourteen pieces, the most for any SUUDO show thus far. It also featured a live musician, creating a diverse dance experience for audiences and dancers alike.

“When you’re making your own choreography, it doesn’t follow any rules,” said Urban-Breed. “It could be whatever message you want, and even if the message isn’t clear, whatever the audience takes from it, they can take.”

SUUDO also upholds their salons as a way to see the next generation of dance.

“We’re all going to graduate and go out into the world and create these art pieces,” said Urban-Breed. “Coming to the salon is really seeing what people are taking from SUUDO and putting into what they want to do creatively.”

At the end of the night, a senior dance was featured to honor those graduating.
