Southern Utah University celebrated Founders Week by hosting a farmers market on Wednesday, March 13. Students were invited to come and support student-run businesses while also passing off the SUU tradition of eating a snow cone in Cedar City.
Sugar White, a psychology major who sells handmade jewelry and paintings, shared her appreciation for the event.
“I love the farmers market,” said White. “I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for students who have artistic talents, or other talents, to be able to showcase those abilities and also earn a profit from them.”
Another student selling their work was Shyanne Christensen, a freshman who also has a knack for making jewelry.

“I’ve been making spoon rings for about five years now,” shared Christensen. “This is my second SUU farmers market, and I love the vibe. You can tell everyone is excited to be here.”
Aside from the student businesses in attendance and the free snow cones, live music for the event was also provided.
“The vendors are all so passionate about what they do,” shared Grace Parke, one of the musicians that performed. “It’s such a caring atmosphere and it was inspiring to see so many student-run businesses!”
“Singing at farmers markets is always a lot of fun because you get to see a lot of different people come through that you might not have had a chance to meet otherwise,” Parke added.
Now that Founders Week has passed, you can view the SUU events calendar to stay up to date on future campus events. More information is also available on the SUU student life Instagram.
