SUU Hosts First Annual Dodgeball Tournament

The Southern Utah University Student Programming Board hosted a dodgeball tournament in the P.E. Building as part of homecoming week on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

18 teams signed up for this event, which was the first in this now annual event. The student body flooded to the gym to participate for a chance at the grand prize: a float in the homecoming parade being recognized as the tournament’s champs.

The dodgeball tournament was a last-minute idea that was left in the hands SPB Event Director Taylee Ciccone.

“I wanted to bring out a different group of individuals for homecoming events,” Ciccone said. “Since we already have powderpuff for the female student body, I wanted to branch out and do something where both the boys and girls could participate together.”

With nearly 80 students participating and hundreds of more in attendance, the event achieved its goal of creating an environment to cultivate new friendships.

“Me and my roommates decided that we wanted to try and make it to one event each day during Homecoming week to meet new people,” said freshman Ben Yamashita. “Dodgeball was the one we were most excited about, and with so many other students here it turned out to be what we hoped.”
