Southern Utah University’s College of Health Sciences held their annual 5k Fun Run, on Saturday April 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This year featured a new route allowing participants to run through campus.
The Fun Run welcomed participants of all demographics, ages, and paces. Erin Fonseca, a Cedar City resident, commented on how this event helps her on her health journey after pregnancy.
“I’ve just been trying to get in shape after having my baby,” said Fonseca. “ I feel like doing races motivates me to keep working out.”
A 5k is around the equivalent of 3 miles, making SUU’s campus perfect for the amount of distance needed to cover.
This event was $15-25 to enter, with all of the proceeds going to the College of Health Sciences. This allows the students in that college to be supported with their scholarships and other various projects.
This is the fourth year that SUU has put on this fundraiser for the COHS. One of the event organizers, Paige Timothy, explained the best part of putting on an event like this.
“The best part is just seeing the students come out and be engaged and have fun and create a community here at SUU that will hopefully last forever,” said Timothy.
To keep runners motivated,All around campus were stations for directions/help and music was provided by Thunder 91.
This event will take place next year, and the College of Health Sciences looks to provide another great moment for SUU and its community.
