“The Rocky Horror Show” comes to SUU

The SUU Department of Theatre, Dance and Arts Administration is bringing cult classic “The Rocky Horror Show” to campus. The production will run in the SUU Auditorium Theatre on April 10, 11, 13 and 17 at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on April 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.

The show follows Brad and Janet, a newly engaged couple whose night takes an unexpected turn when they end up at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mansion after their car breaks down. There, the two encounter a cast of eccentric characters, and they quickly become a part of a strange, chaotic experience accompanied by dance and music.

With songs like “The Time Warp” and “Sweet Transvestite,” it has become known for its campy, over-the-top style. Carson Tanner, who plays Dr. Scott, said the production is centered around that feeling.

“The energy is explosive and crazy,” he explained. “The vibes are raunchy and daring, like a fun party that never ends.”

Cast members hope audiences come ready to participate and enjoy the show’s unconventionality.

“People should expect to be a little thrown off by things in the show,” said Bailey Cutler, who plays Usherette. “But it’s entertaining, and just expect to have fun while watching.”

Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for alumni and $8 for non-SUU students. SUU students, faculty and staff can attend for free with a valid ID. Tickets can be bought at the Utah Shakespeare Festival Ticket Office up to 30 minutes before every performance or online.

Due to mature themes and content, “The Rocky Horror Show” may not be suitable for all audiences.
