The Cedar City Livestock & Heritage Festival begins this week, bringing with it events celebrating Cedar City’s rich agricultural heritage.
The festival is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 23 and continue through the weekend, ending on Sunday, Oct. 26. Saturday morning holds the highlight event of the festival: the Sheep Parade, which remains one of the most unique parades in the country. The parade will showcase live sheep, historic wagons, antique tractors and vintage cars. It is set to start at 10 a.m.
The festivities will commence Thursday night with an unveiling of two historical markers along Main Street, with the ceremony taking place from 6 to 6:15 p.m.
Western vendors and agricultural displays make up the bulk of Friday afternoon, with notable events including cowboy poetry, western photography contests, antique tractor pulls and the Junior Ranch Rodeo. This rodeo will allow kids to compete in various ranch skills including team roping, wild goat milking, and branding. The first of these scheduled events will begin at 10 a.m., and continue until 7 p.m.
The festival will continue throughout Saturday, with notable events including vintage car shows and rodeos located at the nearby Iron Rangers Arena. These events will proceed until 5 p.m.
The final event of the weekend will be a non-denominational cowboy church service on Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Livestock & Heritage Festival is a celebration of the fall harvest and Cedar City’s large number of sheep and cattle farms. This event is not only a highly anticipated festival, but a celebration of Iron County’s rich agricultural legacy.
