Most Fun Friday brings students together as the semester ends

On Friday, April 11 Southern Utah University’s Student Programming Board hosted a day full of activities with their annual Most Fun Friday to celebrate the spring weather, the end of the semester and Southern Utah University’s spirit.

Although a hot air balloon ride was scheduled to kick off the event from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., strong winds put the launch on hold and instead participants did yoga and got snacks.

Following this, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. a hands-on activity called “Tees and Treats” was held. Located on the lawn of Bristlecone Hall, students chose a color of t-shirt or hat before personalizing it with patches, embroidery thread, beads and textile markers.

Students making T-shirts

“I liked getting a free T-shirt because like it’s been one year in and I’ve gotten like five t-shirts from SUU,” said freshman Drew Wilson. “I’m slowly trying to amass a wardrobe of just SUU t-shirts that I got for free.”

At 3 p.m. the “Disco Roller Skating” event took place in the Multipurpose Gym. From tie-dye, bright pink to rainbow, students had access to a wide selection of stylish skates and enjoyed 2 hours of uninterrupted skating.

“The music was spectacular and the roller skates were so convenient because they weren’t nasty rentals,” said event attendee Hadley Humes.

“I loved it, the snacks were good, it was fun, the vibes were up, the energy was popping. It was fabulous.”

For those needing a breather between the fun, th

e Tutoring Center opened its doors from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. for a relaxing study and snack session.

Then, the day concluded with the most eagerly awaited event; “Silent Disco.” This dance brought many students together for an entertaining evening. With three playlists to choose from, everyone could select songs they liked best and create memories with friends on the colorful dance floor. The party finished with “Determinate” from Lemonade Mouth.

The weather allowed students to spend this Most Fun Friday outdoors

“I’m not gonna lie, I only showed up to the silent disco, but it was lit,” said dance attendee Zack Poulson. “Definitely pulling up next year, if the university does it again.”

Most Fun Friday was the SBP’s last event of the year, but they are ready to entertain SUU students throughout summer and fall.

“I was shy my freshman year, I didn’t know anybody and was a little hermit crab, but then I went to the smaller events like roller skating and stepped out of my shell to try something new,” said SUU Vice President of Programming Emily Wixom. “Just do it, it’s worth it.”
