Wind Symphony showcases senior talent

The SUU Wind Symphony played their seventh concert of the 2024-2025 Music Masterworks Series entitled, “Legendary.”

The Music Masterworks Series showcases the talents and dedication of over 300 students along with the music department faculty.

The evening began with a performance by the Symphonic Band conducted by Professor David Torres. Pieces such as “Chester” by William Schumann and “Shepherd’s Hay” by Percy Aldridge Grainger were played to entertain attendees.

“(Symphonic music) resonates through your soul in a way that nothing else can,” said attendee Jana Saunders.

Next, the Wind Symphony took the stage. Various solo performances were included throughout the songs to honor the skill of graduating seniors during their last performance with SUU. Among these seniors was Lemmy King, who played her tuba solo during Edward Gregson’s “Tuba Concerto.”

“I first got this music when I was in high school, when it was too advanced for me to play it and now I’m performing it with the Wind Symphony, which I honestly never thought was going to happen. It’s a dream come true,” said King.

In addition, trumpeter Seth Seegmiller also played the final concert of his collegiate career that night.

“This concert to me was a culmination of all of my friendships that I made with everybody and the music that we can make together,” said Seegmiller. “As I was playing my music, a bunch of memories started flooding in from anywhere between yesterday to freshman year, so this was really a special one for me.”

The final performance of Music Masterworks for the 2024-2025 season will be on April 18 where the choirs and symphony orchestra will perform their show, “Crown and Cosmos.” For more information check out the arts page.
