With Valentine’s Day coming up, students got together Tuesday evening for a Palentine’s Day Bingo Bash put on by the Student Leadership and Involvement Center in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Ballroom.
Between each round of Bingo there were minigames and trivia, creating a variety of options for all in attendance. The pattern needed in order to win Bingo shifted each round, from a blackout, meaning all the spaces on the card have been filled, to a heart, flower or even the number 14.
When two people called “Bingo” at the same time, they went into a trivia battle, with the winner receiving a prize.
Otherwise, the trivia was left for those in the room to play. The topics ranged from Southern Utah University to cultural traditions, with many confident guesses from players.
Minigames were highly involved too, anywhere between donut eating contests to singing the university fight song loud and proud. Each winner was rewarded with a prize.
The event aimed to create a fun environment for students. Alexis Garcia, STIL event coordinator, was especially proud of the red and pink decorative bows, lights and table decor.
“We tried to spice it up because we’re so close to Valentine’s Day. We’re emphasizing making friends and building those relationships,” she said.
An example of that would be a special card that was given to attendees upon entering, called the “Vibe Check” bingo. Each square on the board consisted of attributes and players were encouraged to meet students who matched those descriptions in order to reach a blackout.
Archer Hancock, like many other students, had the most fun participating in the callouts that the moderators started with the room. When certain squares were called, attendees chanted something in response. A few crowd favourites were B4, to which the crowd responded, “and after,” B12, which was followed by “take your vitamins” and O69, which warranted general cheering from the crowd.
Hancock said, “I had a lot of fun despite not winning a main game because I hung out with friends, I got free food and there were plenty of chances for other prizes.”
Prizes ranged from punch cards to a TV or an air fryer.
This event kicked off SUU’s Valentine’s season, so look out for more incredible events like this one, including a Valentine’s Mix and Mingle on Feb.12 and Speed Friending on Feb.13.
