The Local Career and Internship Fair, held every semester, allows students to review their resumes, learn interviewing tips and impress employers with their in-person communication skills.
Bobby Hodge, the Career Center’s events and marketing coordinator, emphasized the fair’s importance for students who may need to work while pursuing their education.
“The Local Job Fair is for students looking for any job they can do while attending SUU,” Hodge said, “Employers come from Cedar City and surrounding areas to hire students they know are attending SUU. We do this within the first couple weeks of the semester because many students have to work while taking classes. Hopefully, those students can have less financial stress knowing they will have a job lined up through the semester.”
Hodge also highlighted the resources available to students through the Career Center.

“The Career Center helps students with all things related to careers,” Hodge explained. “Interview prep, resume help, networking tips, internships, career interest assessments, help to decide on a major and more.”
Hodge encourages students who couldn’t attend the fair to check out the university sanctioned networking program, Handshake.
“It’s similar to Indeed, but you must be a college student or alumni to use it. You can find the link to Handshake on your student portal,” said Hodge.
JT Hansen, a sophomore at SUU, found the fair helpful and valuable in securing a job position.
“I found an interesting substituting position, so today was pretty successful,” said Hansen. “I will probably attend future events like this because of today.”
The fair featured several local employers, including Chrysalis, the Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Services and Zion Outfitter.
Hodge also discussed the Career Center’s plans and events for this semester and what they mean for students on campus.
“We only have two fairs left,” he said. “The Teacher Career Fair on Feb. 5, and the Career & Internship Fair + Public Lands Employment Day on Feb. 19. We also have several workshops that will be taught throughout the semester.”
