Students showed off their Southern Utah University spirit at the first ever Red Friday Stomp on Friday, Oct. 4. The event invited T-Birds to wear red and enjoy live music from the local band Black Cat Parade and DJ Lex.
Participants were given a red glow stick and encouraged to sing, cheer and dance during the artists’ shows. Drummer and guitarist of Black Cat Parade, Porter Burt and Ike Petersen, highlighted how high the atmosphere was.
“It was fun and the crowd had good vibes,” said Burt.
Petersen added, “It was the greatest of all time.”
After their performance, the DJ took over and played tracks like Pitbull’s “Hotel,” Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” and Florida’s “Low”.
Adia Eberling, sophomore at SUU, enjoyed the setlist but pointed out one song in particular.
“I thought [the event] was really fun,” said Eberling. “They played Stacy’s mom!”
Familiar songs like “Cotton Eye Joe” and “Cupid Shuffle” were played, and students joined together to dance their associated choreographies.
While this was the first time the event was held, Anna Jorgensen, vice president spirit and community for the SUU Student Association, hopes to organize another next year.
“We wear red on Friday and we love celebrating it, so we wanted to throw this event to remind people of it,” said Jorgensen. “We wanted to do it as a promotion to have fun and start the homecoming week right.”
The event ended with a student’s recommendation to play “Dancing Queen.” Everyone joined in and sang the ABBA song before going their separate ways.
