Disability Awareness Week raises awareness with four fun events

Southern Utah University’s Disability Resource Center is set to host Disability Awareness Week, beginning on Monday, September 23 and spanning until Friday, September 27. The week includes several fun activities designed to promote awareness about mental and physical disabilities and available resources on campus.

The first activity, Donuts and the DRC, will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students can visit the Library Quad to enjoy a donut and learn more about the DRC. Students can also apply for disability accommodations at this event.

On Tuesday at 12 p.m., a panel of SUU students and faculty will be in Rooms 121-123 of Bristlecone Hall. The panel will provide additional information on all the DRC has to offer the SUU community.

Dr. Matt Wappatt from Utah State University will visit campus on Wednesday for a special Lunch and Learn event. Students can visit the Sharwan Smith Center Living Room at 12 p.m. to learn about a type of exercise program called Laughter Yoga. The first 100 students to attend will be provided with free Jimmy John’s sandwiches.

The final Disability Awareness Week activity will be held on Thursday in Rooms 121-123 of Bristlecone Hall. The event starts at 12 p.m. and ends at 12:45 p.m., and will feature the DRC’s Chase Morgan as he shares several self-care and mindfulness techniques.
