Soccer to play final two games before conference play

The Southern Utah University women’s soccer team is preparing to play two final games before their kick-off in the Western Athletic Conference. 

SUU will be playing at home against Sacramento State University on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 1`p.m. Afterwards, Southern Utah will travel to Flagstaff, Arizona to compete against Northern Arizona University on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.

Sacramento State
The Hornets enter this week with a 2-3-3 overall record. Sacramento State is leading with one of their best weeks this season. They won over California State University at Northridge, and tied against California State, Bakersfield. The last time Sacramento State faced off against Southern Utah, the Thunderbirds came out on top 2-0. 

Sacramento State has struggled with offensive scoring. As a team, they average only .75 goals per game while giving up 1.38 goals a game. Sophomore Ellie Farber and senior Abigail Lopez lead the Hornets with two goals each. Redshirt sophomore and goalkeeper Izzy Palmatier has seven of the eight games with a save percentage of 80.4%.

Northern Arizona
Northern Arizona comes into the week with a 0-4-2 overall record. The Lumberjacks are still searching for their first win on the year considering their three-game losing streak. Their struggles have come up on the offensive side. NAU has scored only three goals in six games and gives up nearly two goals a game. 

McKenzie Coleman, Joey Lujan and Deniah Wells have all scored a goal for the Lumberjacks. NAU goalkeeper Trinity Corcoran has appeared in all six games, starting in five of them. Corcoran is averaging six saves a game and has a 81.8% save percentage. 

Southern Utah
SUU sits with a 1-5-2 record overall, and is coming off a 3-0 loss to Boise State University. The Thunderbirds have found difficulty away from the Thunderbird Soccer Field. Southern Utah is 0-3-1 on the road this year, and have yet to score a goal.

The Thunderbirds are averaging just one goal a game, while giving up two goals a game. Whitney Gardner, Sarah Assumma, and Chelsea Loeser all have two goals each on the year. Gardner and Steph Roper lead the team with three assists each. 

Southern Utah is 3-6 all-time against Sacramento State and 2-17-3 all-time against Northern Arizona.
