Nine Thunderbirds Named to 2021 Spring Football All-Conference Team

FARMINGTON, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced the members of the 2021 Big Sky Spring Football All-Conference team Wednesday morning and Southern Utah put nine Thunderbirds on the team, including three First Team members, three Second Team members, and three Honorable Mentions.

La’akea Kaho’ohanohano-Davis was named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team Defense after his huge breakout season. Kaho’ohanohano-Davis led the conference and was ranked seventh in the FCS in sacks, averaging 1.20 sacks per game with seven total sacks. The junior was also second in the conference in total tackles with 57 total tackles and second in tackles for loss with nine total. Kaho’ohanohano-Davis was recently named as a finalist for the 2021 Spring FCS Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award which is awarded annually to the country’s top defensive player.

Francis Bemiy was also named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team Defense, the first honor of his career. Bemiy was second in the conference in sacks, trailing only Kaho’ohanohano-Davis, with four total sacks. The junior had 25 total tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss on the season.

Braxton Jones was named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team Offense, his second All-Conference honor in a row after being named to the Third Team in 2019. Jones was an essential part of an offensive line that led the Big Sky in fewest sacks allowed, only allowing five all season. Jones and the offensive line averaged .83 sacks allowed per game, which was the fifth-best mark in the entire FCS.

Landen Measom was named to the Big Sky All-Conference Second Team Offense, his second career honor and his first as a member of the Second Team. Measom had 30 catches for 446 yards and five touchdowns in five games this season. The senior was ranked fifth in the Big Sky for receiving yards per game, averaging 89.2 yards per game. He also had the third-most scoring touchdowns in the conference with his five scores.

Treyson Johnson was also named to the Big Sky All-Conference Second Team Offense as a special teams player. The freshman had seven tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss as a member of the special teams unit.

Alonzo (L.J.) Davis was named to the Big Sky All-Conference Second Team Defense. Davis had eight total tackles and four pass breakups as a member of the defensive backfield for the Thunderbirds.

Justin MillerJudd Cockett, and Manny Berz were all named to the Honorable Mention team at their respective positions. Miller threw for 1,713 yards with 15 touchdowns and a 65.7 completion percentage in his first full season as the starting quarterback for the T-Birds. Berz went 4-for-4 on field goals and 16-for-18 on extra point attempts on the season. Cockett was one of the top returners in the conference with 341 kickoff return yards and 42 punt return yards. He also had 131 receiving yards and one touchdown.
