Amanda, Please! My “I Have a Crush on Someone” Playlist

You know when you see a cute boy walking on campus, your eyes meet for a brief second, you offer that half smile that he doesn’t notice, and the next thing you know you’re planning your lives together? Yeah, me neither. I’ve definitely never experienced anything like that before.

Anyway, if by chance you know the pain of falling in love with someone who doesn’t know that you’re alive, you might be looking for a way to release those pent up lovey dovey feelings.

Thankfully, the world has this thing called music. I’m not saying that I’ve created a playlist dedicated to the feelings of having a crush on someone, but what I am saying is that I’m going to share my favorite songs on that playlist, for the sake of helping the people.

1. “I Don’t Even Know Your Name” by Shawn Mendes
Reasoning: Do you know your crush’s name? That’s irrelevant, the point is that they’re perfect and you love them.
Best lyrics: “And I don’t even know your name, all I remember is that smile on your face. And it’ll kill me everyday, ’cause I don’t even know your name.”

2. “I’m Just a Girl in Love” by the cast of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Reasoning: You might feel crazy, but whatever. You’re just in love. Definitely not crazy.
Best lyrics: “They say love makes you crazy, therefore, you can’t call her crazy. ‘Cause when you call her crazy, you’re just calling her in love.”

3. “Crush” by David Archuleta
Reasoning: David Archuleta’s falsetto validates you, I promise.
Best Lyrics: “Do you ever think when you’re all alone all that we can be, where this thing can go? Am I crazy or falling in love? Is it real or just another crush?”

4. “Make Me Feel” by Janelle Monáe
Reasoning: Your crush is DUMB because they just don’t get that their stupid smile is making you feel some kind of way. Idiot.
Best lyrics: “Baby, don’t make me spell it out for you. All of the feelings that I’ve got for you can’t be explained, but I can try for you.”

5. “I Want You (She’s so Heavy)” by The Beatles
Reasoning: Honestly, this song is musically awesome. Also it just repeats the same four lyrics, which gives you all the angsty feels.
Best Lyrics: “I want you. I want you so bad, it’s driving me mad.”

6. “I Would” by One Direction
Reasoning: For some reason someone thought it would be a good idea to let One Direction write their own song. The result is this. It’s terribly wonderful.
Best lyrics: “Feels like I’m constantly playing a game that I’m destined to lose, ’cause I can’t compete with your boyfriend, he’s got twenty seven tattoos.”

7. “Sidekick” by Walk the Moon
Reasoning: Besides the fact that this is one of my favorite bands ever, we all need a sidekick for cuffing season. The time is upon us.
Best lyrics: “And don’t you wonder why the things that you want are so hard to find? Well it just occurred to me the one that I need could be right here by my side.”

8.“You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift
Reasoning: I mean, who didn’t want to fall in love with their window buddy? Also, if your crush already has a significant other, this song really makes you feel better about yourself.
Best lyrics: “And I know your favorite songs and you tell me about your dreams. I think I know where you belong, I think I know it’s with me” (Same, Taylor, same).

9.“I Like You” by Ben Rector
Reasoning: This song is so stinkin’ cute. It’s simple and easy, but still says so much.
Best Lyrics: “There’s no need to complicate it, dress it up or overstate it. Without too much hesitation, here’s the way I feel: well, I like you.”

10. “Fallin’ For You” by Colbie Caillat
Reasoning: Colbie Caillat was my first concert when I was in seventh grade, so this song really has all the 13 year-old sad feelings. Also, it’s cute as heck.
Best lyrics: “I am trying not to tell you, but I want to. I’m scared of what you’ll say, and so I’m hiding what I’m feeling. But I’m tired of holding this inside my head.”

11. “Life’s a Happy Song” by the cast of The Muppet Movie
Reasoning: Did you just have a 30 second conversation with your crush? Listen to this afterwards, and I promise you will revel in the gooey feelings.
Best lyrics: “I’ve got everything that I need – right in front of me. Nothing’s stopping me, nothing that I can’t be with you right here next to me.”

12. “I Always Knew” by The Vaccines
Reasoning: This is the absolute best pump up song for getting the courage to look/talk to your crush. It’s scary, but The Vaccines are there to help you out.
Best lyrics: “So let’s go to bed before you say something real. Let’s go to bed before you say how you feel. ‘Cause it’s you, I always, always knew, oh, I always knew, oh, it’s you.”

Hopefully this playlist gives you the courage or solace you need to face your crush. Whether you’re trying to get over them or hoping to talk after class, these songs are here to put you in the mood. Good luck!

(Editor’s note: this playlist was 100% not inspired by the cute boy in my English class.)
