Let’s face it: On some level, we are all broke college students. We jump at the chance for free food, scrimp and save on everything we can, and hoard ramen like the end of the world is almost upon us.
When it comes to holidays, it can be difficult live up to the society’s expectations for what makes a Valentine’s Day date special. With that in mind, and feeling Valentine’s Day creeping up on us, we’d like to give you a few date ideas that are actually fun and will not cost you an arm and a leg.
Stay in for the night and binge watch some shows on your streaming service of choice. Make a blanket fort, pop some popcorn and cuddle up for a relaxing Valentine’s Day. Hey, there must be a reason that “Netflix and chill” is one of the most popular dating memes.
Go hiking. There are tons of great parks and trails around here you and your significant other could go take on together. The outdoors are free and so much fun! Check out the Close to Campus series of stories from our Outdoors section for some ideas of which trials or trips would be the best time for you.
Stay in and game. Whether you break out Cards Against Humanity or start up a Mario Kart tournament, you’ll be able to spend some quality time with your significant other. Or you and your friends can all get together with your significant others and have a big gaming night.
Take a walk down Main Street and check out the local stores. You could go full vintage Valentine and get a milkshake or sodas to share at Bulloch Drug’s old fashioned soda fountain. Sure, this is one of the simpler things you could do, but that does not mean it is not still a good time.
The Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA) is having a Date Night at the Museum starting at 6:00pm on Valentine’s Day. While the event is not free, costing $20 per couple, there will be live music and dance instruction to help create one classy night out.
It might be cliché, but going to watch the sunset together will almost always be romantic. If it is cold outside, bring a blanket and some hot chocolate to make your date a truly heartwarming moment.
