Gingerbread and Cookies and SUMA, Oh My!

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, the Southern Utah Museum of Art had another “A Very SUMA Holiday” event. To celebrate not only the season but also National Cookie Day, SUMA hosted a gingerbread house making contest.

Faculty and staff, students, and even families and members of the community were all invited to come out and show off their gingerbread decorating skills.

There were about 45 people throughout the 4-hour event with over 20 houses being decorated. SUU Students who entered were also able to enter a competition to win a SUMA gift shop certificate. The winner hasn’t been announced yet, so stay tuned to hear who the winner is.

Cameron Houston is a student employee at SUMA. In regards to not only the contest but all of SUMA’s “A Very SUMA Holiday” events, he said: “It is important for us to give the community an opportunity to create and enjoy the arts.”

Being located directly east of the General Education building, visiting SUMA and the entire Beverly Center For the Arts is a convenient way to take a quick study break especially during this crazy end of the semester.

It was the second of three “A Very SUMA Holiday” event that was put on by the museum. The first was “Small Business Saturday Sale” that was back on November 24, while the next and final event is the “Winter Solstice Celebration” coming up on the 21 of December.
