The Orchestra of Southern Utah will bring rock classics to the symphony stage during Rock Gold Volume IV: Voices Amplified, with performances Thursday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Theater.
Led by Music Director and Conductor Carylee Zwang, the concert will feature a full symphony orchestra, vocalists, dancers and local choirs. The program includes songs by Queen, Journey, Santana, Van Halen, Coldplay and Bruno Mars.
The concert will also feature southern Utah community musicians, including a nurse, structural engineer, banker, retired university professor and students.
“It is so exciting to give community musicians a chance to shine with the orchestra,” Zwang said. “We can shine the spotlight on talents that might otherwise be invisible for a great evening of music.”
The combined madrigal choirs of Cedar and Canyon View high schools will join the orchestra for Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.” Southern Utah University students Taylor Petersen and Dakota Allison will perform Coldplay’s “Clocks.” Jacob Lee, the orchestra’s composer in residence, will present his original synthesizer solo concerto, “The Land Unknown.”
Rock Gold has sold out in each of the past two years, leading the orchestra to add a second performance this year. Tickets are $18 for general admission and are available at myosu.org.
