Southern Utah University’s biggest rival is arguably the Weber State Wildcats, especially since last year when the Wildcats brought the T-Birds football season to an end.
This upcoming Saturday, our Thunderbirds will be playing the Wildcats again here in Cedar City for all the revenge, glory and bragging rights for the upcoming year. Until then, there are plenty of other activities going on all over campus that are available to students to get ready to cheer on the T-Birds and take down the Wildcats.
Although Monday has already passed us, students had the opportunity to “Claw Out Weber” in the library quad. Students were able to show their support by leaving their red handprints on a board that says “Weber Sucks.”
Tuesday evening will be the piñata making in the ballroom from 5-6:30 pm. Students will be able to paint piñatas that will be provided by the Student Programming Board and will later be smashed to pieces at the tailgate this coming Saturday.
Shortly after in the America First Events Center, students can cheer on the men’s basketball team as they take on the West Coast Baptist Eagles in their season opener.
The following morning at 11 a.m. in the Nest, located in the Sharwan Smith Student Center, will be “Posters and Pizza”. Your Aces will be there to help you make posters as you chow down on some pizza together. The posters will be made to hold up as students cheer on the T-Birds at the football game.
Later Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., students can then support our lady T-Birds in their home opener as they take on the San Diego Toreros in the AFEC.
Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. will be the Tip Off Party. Hosted by the Thunder Crew, come get hyped up for not only the rest of the football season, but also the beginning of the basketball season. Thunder Crew will go over the new prizes, students will hear from coaches and athletes alike, play a bit of trivia–all while enjoying dinner. It will be located in the Hunter Conference Center in the Great Hall.
The weekend will start of with the volleyball game at Friday night at 6:30 p.m. as the Thunderbirds face Northern Arizona. It will be in the AFEC as usual.
Afterwards at 9 p.m. will be the Red and White Dance in the ballroom. It is formal wear, so be sure to grab your best red and white clothes and come ready to show off your dance moves.
Everything in the week leads up to Saturday with the tailgate and football game.
The tailgate will start at 2:30 p.m. in the football parking lot where students will not only be able to come smash the pinatas from earlier in the week, but also get their faces painted and enjoy some food before the big game.
Kickoff is at 5 p.m., so be sure to get there early to grab a good seat. The game is a red out, so be sure to flood Eccles Coliseum in a sea of red.
