SUUSA Senate Meeting 10/16

The Southern Utah University Student Association (SUUSA) held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 16 to go over current campus issues.

Twelve SUUSA members were officially sworn in today. Among those was new Chief of Staff Colton Smith.

“I’m excited to work with fellow members of SUUSA,” Smith said. “I feel like it’s a great organization that helps out our campus a lot.”

As chief of staff, Smith will be head parliamentarian for all student senate meetings and the head of the administrative committee. The committee handles grievances against SUUSA and reviews the constitution when necessary.

It was announced that SUU student employees will not be able to work more than 20 hours per week while enrolled in classes.

SUUSA is also negotiating contracts with hotels so that students and faculty can book rooms at a lower rate when traveling for school functions.

The budget and finance committee approved several different things this week, including funding for the Philosophy Club’s upcoming conference. The committee also approved funds for Orchesis dance company to get new uniforms, as well as granting travel money to the Construction Club for their trip to Brigham Young University.

For those interested in becoming more involved on campus, SUUSA Senate meetings are held every Tuesday in the Sterling Church Auditorium at 11:30 a.m.
