T-Birds in the NFL: Final Roster Cuts and Week 1 Recap

The NFL deadline to trim rosters down to 53 players has past, and with the storm of roster moves that have taken place over the last two weeks, let’s take a look at which T-birds made the cut.

Made the Cut

LeShaun Sims – DB, Tennessee Titans

Sims will return to the Titans for his third year in the NFL. In 2017, Sims played in 13 games, recorded 36 total tackles, three pass deflections, one interception and one fumble recovery. This season, Sims will look to compete for playing time over former Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler, who the Titans signed this offseason. Rising star Adoree Jackson will compete for snaps as well. Over his career, Sims has played in 26 games, made 58 tackles,  along with six pass deflections, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Sims made a tackle in the Titans’ week one matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Miles Killebrew – LB, Detroit Lions

Killebrew returns to the Lions for his third year in the league, but will make the switch from safety to linebacker to help provide more speed and coverage skills within the front seven. Killebrew is expected to be part of the third string defense. In 2017, Killebrew played in all 16 games for the Lions, on his way to recording 38 total tackles, six pass deflections, one pick-six and one forced fumble. Over his two year career, Killebrew has played in 32 games, recording 66 total tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions, one touchdown and one forced fumble.

Killebrew did not see the filed on Monday vs. the New York Jets.

Missed the Cut

James Cowser – LB, Oakland Raiders

Cowser will be looking for another team going into his third year as a pro after the Raiders cut the the FCS all-time leader in sacks. Coswer played in all 16 games last season, recording 23 total tackles and forcing a fumble. Over his career, Coswer has played in 22 games, recording 32 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

Raysean Pringle – DB, Oakland Raiders

Pringle spent last season on practice squads for the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Raiders last month. Pringle has not appeared in an official NFL game.

Josh Thornton – DB, Houston Texans

Thornton spent the majority of last season on the Texans Practice squad. He has never appeared in an official NFL game. Thornton was cut by the Texans on August 20 when they signed cornerback Bryce Jones.

Robert Torgerson – DL, Jacksonville Jaguars

Torgerson signed with the Jaguars after the NFL Draft in April to a mini camp deal, but was never able to make the roster

Mike Needham – LB, Minnesota Vikings

Needham signed with the Arizona Cardinals after going undrafted back in April, but was released shortly after and signed with the Vikings. After struggling to get any playing time in the preseason, the Vikings cut Needham on the final day of cuts.
