SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts Department of Music presents its Jazz Ensemble. They are set to perform their “Big Band and Bebop” on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the SUU Music Building’s Thorley Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The music this Thursday “will range from big band to contemporary jazz and promises lively rhythms and a soulful composition,” Tracy Solimeno, a masters candidate in the Arts Administration Department, wrote in a press release.
Some of the music set to perform includes: “When You’re Smiling” by Tom Kubis, a big band composer out of Hollywood; “Minuano” by Pat Metheny; “Charlie” by Bob Florence; and “Hear of the Matter” by Bob Mintzer. Each song will feature one or more student performers.
Quoted in a press release written by Solimeno, Lloyd Peterson from the “Scarecrow Press Book” said, “The creative genius of Pat Metheny lies deep beneath the surface, a place of heartfelt passion and beauty, of melodic depth and spirit.”
