T-Birds in the NFL

Football season is upon us, and former SUU players are getting ready to play in the NFL. Brad Sorensen became the first T-Bird ever drafted when the then San Diego Chargers selected him as a quarterback in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Since then, more attention has come to SUU from NFL scouts. Current NFL alumni include:

James Cowser 2012-14 (Defensive End, Oakland Raiders)

Cowser was able to get on the field for the Raiders in their 27-10 loss in Washington D.C. on Sunday. He recorded two total tackles. On the season he has recorded six combined tackles and  two fumble recoveries.

Miles Killebrew 2011-16 (Defensive Back, Detroit Lions)

Killebrew recorded his first career start in the Lions 30-26 loss against the Falcons. As a result, he was able to record nine combined tackles. On the season, he has 16 combined tackles, three passes deflected and one interception, which he returned 35 yards for a touchdown in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Rashaun Pringle 2014-16 (Defensive Back, Jacksonville Jaguars)

Pringle is not on the Jags roster, but was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 5.

Josh Thornton 2015-17 (Defensive Back, Baltimore Ravens)

Thornton is also a member of a practice squad. The Ravens signed him on Sept. 20. He was a member of the Lions for some time, but was cut early in September.

LaShaun Sims 2012-16 (Defensive Back, Tennessee Titans)

Sims was able to see playing time for the Titans against the Seahawks, but did not record many stats. He finished the game with one tackle and one pass deflection. On the season he has four combined tackles, one pass deflection and one forced fumble.

When the Titans and Raiders played during preseason a few weeks ago, Sims shared a photo of him and Cowser participating in the jersey swap tradition. Courtesy of LaShaun Sims.
