The Thunderbird women’s golf team saw their first action of the 2017-18 season on Monday, opening up play at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic hosted by Utah Valley University.
Sophomores Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong and Kyla Smith were the top Thunderbirds on the leaderboard today, as they both finished with a 12-over 154. Prasurtwong (77, 77) and Smith (80, 74) finished the day in a tie for 35th.
Senior Miranda Reyes finished just one shot behind her teammates, shooting a 155 (77, 78) after two rounds of action. That put Reyes in a tie for 42nd on the leaderboard.
Lindsay Wood was fourth for the Thunderbirds, finishing just one shot behind Reyes with a 155 (77, 78) and finishing in a tie for 45th. Nicole Jones was fifth for the Thunderbirds with a 160 (85, 75), showing plenty of improvement from the first round to the second round.
Taylor Bandley and Launa Wilson both played as individuals in Springville. Bandley shot a 161 (82, 79) to finish in a tie for 58th and Launa Wilson shot a 163 (87, 76) to finish in 63rd.
As a team the Thunderbirds shot 615 (311, 304) on Monday, finishing the day in 10th place.
After two rounds of action Oral Roberts sits in the top spot, shooting 574 (285, 289) as a team. New Mexico State (576) and Grand Canyon (588) are in second and third respectively.
The third and final round will be played on Tuesday morning, with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m.
