SUU Literature and Graphic Design programs to host Spooky Print Night

Southern Utah University’s Literature and Graphic Design programs are hosting Spooky Print Night on Friday, Oct. 30, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in EVT 205. The event welcomes all SUU students and campus community members.

This year’s event features multiple hands-on creative stations. Participants can use letterpress machines to print custom poetry posters and Halloween postcards, and decorate their finished pieces. There will also be a poem annotation station and a skull drawing station.

Attendees can pick up themed bookmarks, read spooky poems, get candy, and join raffles for Halloween prizes including a scary short story collection.

“Our spooky print night is more multidimensional than previous ones, and we want students to know how many different stations there will be for them to enjoy,” Susanna Herrmann, assistant professor of Filmmaking, Art & Design, said.

Faculty from both departments will be present to share information about the Literature and Graphic Design programs. The activity ties into SUU’s HONR 4010 class, which explores the interplay between written text and visual art.

“We are really excited for students to have a chance to print using the letterpresses, and we’re looking forward to seeing the cool designs and notes they make on their printed poem posters and postcards,” Herrmann added.
