The Southern Utah University’s HOPE Pantry provides SUU students with essential food and toiletry items, as well as providing opportunities to develop food budgeting, meal planning, and cooking skills. The food pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. every weekday except Wednesday, where they open at 1 p.m.
Opening its doors in April 2002 with the help of Pam Branin, the HOPE pantry ended up being one of the first campus-based food pantries in Utah. The need of the food pantry was recognized early on at SUU campus, where it helped provide students with basic food essentials as well as non food items.
Along with providing students with essential foods, HOPE Pantry also hosts T-Bird Test Kitchen, which provides students with cooking classes, along with to-go kits of the meals. HOPE Pantry also hosts Wecepi Wednesday on their instagram which also include the dates on which T-Bird Test Kitchen is being held.
Aside from working along with Utah Food Bank, HOPE pantry also relies on donations from the community and from their Bread and Soup Nite event, held the first Monday of each month. The cost to enter is $1 donation along with a one non-perishable food donation.
Starting this year, HOPE Pantry is accessible through appointments in My SUU Portal.
