Following claims of fraud, Utah Rep. Trevor Lee resigned effective immediately on Monday, Sept. 28. According to KSL, Lee allegedly committed communications fraud, mortgage fraud and forgery. The Utah Attorney General’s Office filed the charges after he allegedly falsified documents related to his home in Layton.
In charging documents, Lee “indicated he was the sales director of Blue Logic with a monthly salary of $15,833″ when he was applying for a home loan, according to KSL. Blue Logic, a water treatment company, later said they’d extended an offer of employment to Lee that he never accepted.
According to investigators, Lee “admitted during his interview that he personally forged (the CEO’s) signature” to obtain the loan.
Lee also allegedly offered Trent Spafford, the CEO of Enevive, a different water treatment company, a contract with Hill Air Force Base if the company gave Lee a $93,000 advance.
In his resignation, Lee said he could no longer fulfill his duties.
“Due to personal circumstances that require my attention, I no longer feel I can give my constituents the time, attention, and services they deserve,” Lee said. “I will always be grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the opportunity I have had to serve the people of Utah.”
Lee was the representative for House District 16 in Davis County since Jan. 2023. He lost the GOP primary to Bob Stevenson in June. Lee gained controversy in recent years for his association with DezNat, an alt-right nationalist movement, and his sponsorship of Utah House Bill 77, that bans LGBTQ+ pride flags in classrooms.
