Young boy struck by car in Cedar City, airlifted to Salt Lake

A young boy was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake after a car backed over him while he was riding a scooter. The incident happened on Monday morning in the 1100 North block of North Field Road.

The SUV was backing out of a parking space when it struck the child, according to the Cedar City Police.

“The child sustained significant injuries, including head trauma, and was pinned under the vehicle,” Cedar City Police Sgt. Kirk Lovell said. The boy was extricated from under the vehicle, and first responders administered life-saving measures.

The child was rushed to Cedar City Hospital and then flown to Salt Lake for additional treatment.

Cedar Police urged drivers to be more careful in areas where children may be present, especially on weekday mornings and afternoons when they are heading to and from school.

This incident remains under investigation.

This occurred about a month after a teen boy was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Main Street. That boy was also airlifted to a different medical facility for further treatment.
