Thunder 91’s Sips n’ Spins is coming back tomorrow

It’s that time of the year again! SUU’s radio station, Thunder 91, is hosting its third rendition of Sips n’ Spins, now partnering with SUU News. This event will be held on Feb. 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room.

In essence, Sips n’ Spins is an event to draw people together. Kaitlynne Cowart of Thunder 91 described the event as “a successful event in the past.”

“It’s a great event to hang out with your friends,” said Cowart.“You can use an old UJ (University Journal) to decorate and collage on a vinyl, while enjoying some drinks and watching some music videos.”

The Sips n’ Spins idea was put together after Guitars Unplugged, a former Thunder 91 event, started to lose momentum. In order to bring back some excitement within the event, Sips n’ Spins was created.

Most recently, the SUU radio station held a Sips n’ Spins event in November of 2025. Bella Miles, a student, attended this event and gave a quote explaining the fun she had.

“I think it is super fun, a lot of people are here,” said Miles. “And they also had popcorn and drinks for people, which is nice.”

The radio station has also made new updates to the manner of organizing the activity. In the past events, they have charged a $2 dollar fee to each vinyl, and $1 dollar per drink, but this time  they will be holding the event free of charge. They are hoping to maximize numbers and build on the student-led fun.

The Thunder 91 radio station and SUU News are looking forward to hosting this event and will be delighted to see students and friends participating.
