Women’s basketball looks to bounce back against Boise State

Following their biggest loss of the season, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team will look to rebuild a winning streak when they head to Idaho to take on Boise State University on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m.

This game can also be streamed live on the Mountain West network.

The T-Birds recently suffered their second loss which snapped a four-game winning streak. The team holds a 7-2 record with a 2-2 record in road games.

The Broncos hold an 8-2 record, with their only losses coming from strong teams in the University of Colorado and the University of Utah. They recently had a six-game winning streak before their loss to the Utes.

Southern Utah

The Thunderbirds were riding high until their recent 70-47 loss against Colorado State. 47 points was the lowest the team had scored in a regular-season game since Feb. 29, 2024.

SUU will have their work cut out for them if they want to bounce back in this matchup. Both teams succeed in the same areas, like shooting, assisting and limiting turnovers. Southern Utah looks to be the better team on defense and at the rim though, which could be where this game is decided.

Sierra Chambers has been the standout T-Bird as of late, scoring 28 points against Nelson University and recently notching two straight games with seven assists. The sophomore guard has stepped up in a big way to lead SUU in points and assists.

Boise State

The Broncos look to be a formidable team despite averaging just 3 points more than opponents. This is mostly due to their two large losses, as six of their wins were by double digits.

In most areas, Boise State has been evenly matched with opponents. They boast a huge shooting disparity though, going 40.4% from three while holding opponents to 31.6%.

The Broncos have been led by Tatum Thompson. The senior forward leads Boise State in points and rebounds while ranking second in steals and third in assists. She’s scored 24 points or more twice this season while scoring in the double digits nearly every game.

The Thunderbirds are 3-6 all-time against Boise State. SUU has won two of the last three faceoffs.
