After a week off, the Southern Utah University men’s basketball team will head up to Seattle to take on the University of Washington on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 4 p.m. This will be the second meeting all-time between these teams, with Washington winning 87-72 on Dec. 12, 2006.
Southern Utah
The T-Birds enter this matchup 4-7 on the year and 0-6 on the road. Southern Utah has struggled on the road, giving up an average of 94.4 points and allowing opponents to shoot 55.3% from the field.
Despite the losing record, Southern Utah is 3-2 in their last five games. One main reason for the recent success has been the dynamic duo of Elijah Duval and Jaiden Feroah.
Duval, a true freshman from Wilmington, Delaware, is the team’s leading scorer with 13.5 points per game. Duval also leads the team with 36 assists and 16 steals.
Feroah has contributed instantly from the transfer portal. The senior from Draper, Utah transferred from the College of the Holy Cross. He’s averaging 13.3 points per game and leads the T-Birds with 24 blocks.
Washington
In their second year in the Big 10 conference, the Huskies are 6-3 on the year and 3-1 at home. Washington is coming off their best win of the season, defeating the No. 24 ranked University of Southern California 84-76 on the road.
The Huskies have five different players that are averaging 10 or more points and five players shooting above 45% from the field. The leader of the pack has been freshman forward Hannes Steinbach.
Steinbach, a forward from Wurzburg, Germany, leads the team with 18.5 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Steinbach is shooting an absurd 63% from the field and 66% from three.
In the backcourt, Washington is led by sophomore Wesley Yates lll. The guard from Beaumont, Texas is second on the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game. Yates lll is also second on the team with 19 made three-pointers.
