After their best start to the season since 2022-23, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team will head on the road for the first time this season to face Eastern Washington University on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.
This game will be played at Reese Court and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
Southern Utah
The T-Birds enter this week 2-0 on the season, their best start since the 2022-23 season. In their two wins, the SUU offense is averaging 90 points per game and is shooting 41.5% from three.
SUU has been led by transfer forward Brooklyn Fely and sophomore guard Sierra Chambers. Fely, a junior from Orem, Utah, is averaging 20.5 points per game and 12 rebounds. She is also shooting 50% from the field.
Chambers is in her second year with Southern Utah and has a new increased role. She is averaging 15.5 points a game and leads the team with nine assists. Chambers is also shooting 50% from three.
Even though SUU is 2-0, one of their best players, Ava Uhrich, has struggled to start the year. Uhrich, a junior from Burlingame, California, is shooting 37.5% from the field and 0/3 from three.
Southern Utah is looking for their first 3-0 start since the 2016-17 season.
Eastern Washington
The Eagles come into this matchup 1-1 on the year. EWU’s win came at home where they scored 99 points, shooting 51.3% from the field and 48% from three. The defense has also been strong at home. Eastern Washington forced 22 turnovers and recorded six blocks.
Eastern Washington has four different players averaging 10 or more points. Freshman guard Elyn Bowers is averaging 15 points on 52% shooting from the field.
Kourtney Grossman has been right there with Bowers. Grossman, a sophomore from Billings, Montana, leads the team with 17 rebounds and is averaging 14 points a game.
Defensively, Eastern Washington has four different athletes that have been excellent. Ella Gallatin, Emily McElmurry, Jacey Eggers and Grossman have each recorded three steals.
Southern Utah is 7-14 all-time against Eastern Washington. EWU won the previous matchup 86-77 on Nov. 8, 2023.
