On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Cedar City’s Main Street will be closed from 6 a.m. – 4 p.m for the installation of the annual Christmas lights. Only the downtown area will be closed, in between 200 North and Center Street.
Despite the small section of road being closed, this may create havoc on travel to SUU’s campus this day.
Students are advised to plan ahead and to leave early in case of heavy traffic and detours.
“Please plan your drive accordingly and thank you for your patience while crews safely put up the holiday lights,” said Cedar City officials.
There are many alternative routes to campus. Students who live towards the Enoch and Three Peaks area can take I-15 into town to avoid Main Street. 200 North will remain open, and there are also neighborhood routes past Cedar High School for those coming from the south end of town.
Despite the inconvenience of the installation, the Christmas lights will be well worth it when they illuminate Cedar City during the annual lighting ceremony on Nov. 29.
“Get ready to experience the magic of the season,” officials added.
