Fall in Southern Utah is winding down, but the colors are only getting brighter. NBC’s Today Show and USA Today rank Utah as “one of the top eight unique destinations to view fall colors.”
According to the latest update on Oct. 21, the high and mid-elevation areas such as Brian Head Resort and Parowan Canyon are marked “past peak.”
The low-elevation valleys around Cedar City and Kolob Canyons are marked in peak conditions with “beautiful yellows and some oranges as the colors should continue to change in the coming weeks.”
For students seeking scenic fall drives, photo ops and crisp mountain air, reports on visitcedarcity.com show three of its top picks, which include the Cedar Breaks National Monument, Parowan Canyon and Kolob Reservoir.
While the high alpine golds are fading, the mid and lower elevation areas still offer strong color and are ideal for a quick escape. Students are encouraged to plan an afternoon trip, bring a camera and pick a weekday to avoid crowds.
