Halloween season is in full swing as we creep further into October. Hundreds of Halloween movies fill TV screens this time of year, but which one is the best?
SUU News, a team of passionate and creative individuals, has heavy opinions on these movies.
A survey listed nine of the most popular Halloween movies, ranging from classics like Beetlejuice, The Addams Family and Hocus Pocus all the way to 2000’s hits such as Corpse Bride, Monster House and Coraline.

SUU News employees rated Coraline, the 2009 animated stop-motion film, as the best Halloween movie. Coraline follows the story of a young girl entering another world, and it is both adventurous and suspenseful. The movie’s artistic film style and creepy atmosphere make for the perfect movie night during the fall season.
While Coraline won the vote for the best popular Halloween movie, SUU News has insight on other, lesser known movies that deserve their moment in the spotlight.
“Spooky Buddies is the Halloween movie of the Disney “Buddies” franchise, a series of movies about Air Buds’ kids,” said Heather Turner, SUU News Editor-in-Chief. “It really is just everything you want out of a Halloween movie — small town trick-or-treating gone wrong because, of course, there is a haunted house — but the main characters are cute, silly Golden Retriever puppies.”
While some look back on their lovable, childhood favorites, other employees enjoy the funky and scary aspects of obscure Halloween movies.
“Killer Klowns from Outer Space is the Halloween movie because it just checks all the boxes. You got jump scares, bad special effects, token bonehead, epic soundtrack, love triangle, wicked cool costume design and comedy,” said Arts Section Editor, Brooklyn Beard.
Whether you enjoy the comforting classics, the bloody horror films or the wacky comedies, there is a Halloween movie for everyone to enjoy, so grab some friends, bake some fall treats and bundle up for an elite holiday movie night.
