Access to Cedar Breaks National Monument will be limited this fall season

Cedar Breaks National Monument, a staple near Cedar City, Utah, will soon be inaccessible as the weather grows colder.

While the park remains open year-round, road closures will take place within the next two months, limiting access to the area.

Closure to State Route 143 and 148 are not currently set for a specific date, but it is expected sometime between late October and late November. While this is a significant time gap, snow has already begun to accumulate in the Brian head area, so the closure is expected to take place at an earlier time.

The Cedar Breaks Visitor’s Center and restrooms are set to close mid-October. All campgrounds are currently unavailable and they are scheduled to reopen in June of 2026.

Cedar Breaks’ high elevation of over 10,000 feet brings cold weather this time of year, but there is still time to visit some of its renowned hikes and trails. Some of the recommended trails include the Alpine Pond Loop, Sunset Trail and the South Rim Trail

While these trails are open and relatively safe this time of year, the National Park Service advises caution, as trails may be slick and uneven.
