The Intermountain Cedar City Hospital has been recognized among the top 100 rural clinics in America by the Chartis Center for Rural Health.
The top 100 list includes hospitals identified based on their performance through the Chartis Rural Hospital performance index using objective data. Hospitals are judged on eight categories — inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and financial stability.
“I definitely think the Cedar Hospital deserves to be recognized,” said nurse, Jessica Dustin. “I have worked in the Cedar Hospital for 6 years as a registered nurse and have been impressed by how our hospital cares for the community. As I have gotten to know individuals and see our hospital as a whole, we really are a fantastic team.”
In addition to the Cedar City Hospital, six other hospitals in Utah were recognized, including the Ashley Regional Medical Center, Bear River Valley Hospital, Castleview Hospital, Park City Hospital, Sevier Valley Hospital and the Uintah Basin Medical Center.
Cedar City and Sevier Valley have also been named in the Top 20 Rural and Community Hospital rankings by the Nation Rural Health Association. This will be the 10th time the Cedar City Hospital is recognized by the NRHA.
“I have delivered a baby at that hospital, used their lab services and had doctor appointments there,” said Cedar community member Megan Bailey. “Each time, the service has been great, and the doctors, nurses and technicians have been kind and knowledgeable. For a smaller community, the hospital is great.”
Recently, the hospital celebrated a ceremonial groundbreaking for its emergency room expansion, which will include space for nine more beds — three of which will be reserved for behavioral and mental health.
The Intermountain Cedar City Hospital will be honored during a luncheon at NRHA’s Annual Rural Health Conference in May.
