“A Room Full of Glass” brings love and adventure to the Black Box

“Think of your yearnings, follow them through. Dream of adventure, for it dreams of you.” – “A Room Full of Glass”

This weekend, audiences will have the chance to be taken away to a world full of love and adventure with the new musical “A Room Full of Glass,” directed by Anne Magee. Brought to Southern Utah University through the department of theatre, dance and arts administration’s Black Box Grant program, performances will take place March 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium Black Box.

“A Room Full of Glass” is a musical about love, adventure and the joy uprising from storytelling. Narrated by a reader, the musical unfolds as the story of “The Prince, the Maiden, and the Stars” is read. The story follows a prince — William — and a peasant — Estelle — who fall after they meet in a marketplace. They go on an adventure together, facing dragons, demons, pirates and other kingdoms as they try to achieve their dreams together.

“There are a lot of themes in ‘A Room Full of Glass,’ but I feel that the biggest one is being true to yourself and to your dreams,” said Magee. “Will and Stell get to follow through on the dreams they’ve always wanted to achieve, and even though they find themselves in different places, they help each other get there. To me, that’s a really beautiful part of the show.”

Following this story’s theme, the production of this show was also full of adventure and togetherness. With the help of Music Director Kate Felt, the performers learned songs and lines to perfection so as to embody the characters at their finest.

“My favorite thing about this show is the ensemble! We have a smaller cast, so lots of our actors play multiple roles,” said Magee. “It’s been really fun to watch them bring these various characters to life! This show could not be done without our fantastic ensemble and I’m grateful for all their hard work.”

The production includes a large number of songs, scenes, costumes and props. Enough to keep the audience entertained and immersed in a world far away from reality. Tickets are $5 at the door and are available 30 minutes before the show begins.
