Kolob Canyon Review’s reception for 2025 Visual Art Exhibition

The 2025 Kolob Canyon Review Visual Art Exhibition celebrated the artistic talents of Southern Utah University students on Wednesday, March 26. Located on the third floor of the Gerald R. Sherratt Library, the temporary display showcases an array of visual expressions under the theme Forsaken and Reclaimed.

Providing real-world experience in publishing and editorial practice, KCR is a literary and art magazine. With over 100 pieces making it into the 2025 final collection, the art work highlights various types of creation, including graphic design, postcards, watercolor paintings, drawings, photographs, collages, screen printing and much more.

“This is my first time seeing all of these in person. Because I’ve only seen the digital scans, I had no idea how big or small these were, so it was really cool to see,” said Dallin Brown, KCR artbook co-editor. “You can just see a lot more detail and they just are a lot more vibrant up there.”

Dani Asher, a participant in the event, submitted three art pieces each using different techniques — watercolor charcoal, paint and pen.

“I’ve never seen my art on a wall, so it’s very humbling and cool. To see it makes it feel very real,” said Asher. “I love seeing everyone else’s art because when you get to see it in person, you get to see the texture and the colors that are completely different and better.”

Among this collection, works of art such as “Down the Forsaken Road” and “Lonely Homes” by Megan Anderson also caught the public’s eye. Using an analog camera, Anderson’s pieces are part of a collection documenting women on their journeys to unknown futures.

“I’ve been aware of KCR for three years. Every year, I submit art to try to get my art out there because I don’t promote myself very often, and KCR was a really good opportunity to do that,” said Anderson. “Plus, I am really proud of the people who put this exhibition together because the art side of KCR doesn’t often get showcases.”

Along the art exhibition, the KCR 2025 magazine release party will be held on April 12 at the Hunter Alumni Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Reading sessions, magazines and merchandise will be available.

“I hope everyone can make it out to the KCR party and buy a copy,” said Brown. “We spent a lot of time and work on it, so we hope everyone comes and enjoys it.”
