Thunderbirds look to take down Trailblazers; Wolverines

Seeking to snap their four-game losing streak, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team will take the short trip down to St. George, Utah to take on Utah Tech University on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. SUU will follow up with a matchup against Utah Valley University on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. in Orem, Utah.

Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.

Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds have struggled as they are just 4-19 on the season and 2-8 in the Western Athletic Conference. Southern Utah currently holds the No. 7 spot in the conference and would earn the last final guaranteed spot in the WAC Tournament.

The offense has shown much inconsistency and is a major reason for their struggles. SUU ranks No. 8 in the WAC in scoring offense, averaging only 59.9 points per game. SUU is shooting just 39.2% from the field and 26.6% from three.

Despite the offensive struggles, sophomore forward Ava Uhrich has shined. In her last three games, Uhrich is averaging 16.3 points per game on 61.3% shooting from the field and 50% from three.

Utah Tech
Although the Trailblazers had a strong 2023-24 campaign, it has been a rocky season for Utah Tech. UTU is 5-16 on the season, 1-7 in WAC play and is currently on a five-game losing streak.

During their five-game losing streak, Utah Tech allows opponents to score 76 points per game on 45% shooting from the field. On the year, UTU has allowed teams to shoot 36.6% from the field and 31.3% from three.

One bright spot for the Trailblazers has been Emily Isaacson. The redshirt senior from Perry, Utah, averages 12.7 points per game on 49% shooting from the field and 41.9% from three.

Utah Valley
Like Southern Utah and Utah Tech, the Wolverines also enter the week on a losing streak. UVU is 13-9 on the year, 5-5 in conference play and rides a three-game losing streak.

Despite being on a three-game losing streak, Utah Valley has put together a strong season and is right in the mix in the WAC. UVU is one of the more balanced teams in the conference, ranking No. 4 in total offense and defense.

Even though UVU has lost three-straight, redshirt senior Tahlia White has been playing some of her best basketball. The forward from Orem, Utah, is averaging 21 points per game in her last six games, including a career-high 34 points against the University of Texas at Arlington on Feb. 6.

Southern Utah is 11-7 all-time against Utah Tech and 19-9 all-time against Utah Valley.
