Southern Utah University traveled to Conway, Arkansas on Saturday, November 16, to face the No. 24 ranked University of Central Arkansas, where they emerged victorious in a 38-31 win. With the win, SUU improves to 6-5 on the season and 5-2 in the United Athletic Conference.
First Quarter
The first period of play was dominated by Central Arkansas’ Caleb Koger, he was on a roll throwing two touchdowns to Trejan Bridges, including a 38-yard receiving score. Momentum was in total favor of UCA with the first quarter ending 14-3.
Second Quarter
SUU turned it on in the second quarter, and Jackson Berry led the charge. After a long drive and score by Targhee Lambson, the Thunderbirds had a two-play drive ending up in a 55-yard touchdown pass to Devin Downing. The first half ended 21-21.
Third Quarter
A field goal and another passing touchdown from Berry were the only scores in the third, as defense was the name of the game. As the momentum started to build for SUU, Lambson was gaining yard after yard, going over 100 yards yet again. The third quarter ended 31-21 in favor of the Thunderbirds.
Fourth Quarter
The final quarter of play was SUU once again. The game was long with defense ruling, however, Berry threw his third touchdown of the game making the score 38-21. CAU responded with a late score but it would not be enough. Final score: 38-31.
