The Southern Utah University soccer team lost to Utah Valley University 3-0 on Sunday, Oct. 6. UVU dominated in every aspect of the game, looking more conditioned and disciplined, as well as showing the ability to out-scheme the Thunderbirds.
UVU Head Coach Chris Lemay achieved a milestone, winning his 85th game as Utah Valley’s head coach. With the loss, Southern Utah falls to 2-7-4 overall and 0-2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. UVU improves to 9-4-1 and is 3-0-0 in conference play.
First Half
The first half was a feeling-out process for both teams, taking turns attacking the net and clearing the ball. In the 21st minute, UVU’s Manthy Brady took a shot on the right side, drilling it in and giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
Momentum was on UVU’s side and Ruby Hladek capitalized on another low right shot in the 23rd minute, increasing UVU’s lead to 2-0. The 26th minute was more of the same as Hladek scored her second goal of the game, increasing the lead to 3-0.
Second Half
UVU led 3-0 at the half and continued to hold that lead through the match. SUU made multiple attempts to score, getting some great looks at the goal but never were able to capitalize. The remainder of the game carried on as it started with both teams not giving in.
